Providing a place to socialise

Re-opening the pub is the first priority and will provide an accessible space for a range of services and activities for the many elderly residents and those living alone. Services and activities will include access to the internet, low-cost lunches with elderly concessions on certain days (or during certain promotions/events), a book/CD/DVD library, comfortable seating, and a quiet area to read and talk with friends whilst enjoying a drink.

We plan to have a steering group that will be responsible for organising and running the services/activities with the help of other volunteers.

Pub Conservatory Area: community space and facilities

We plan to shape a project to re-develop the space in the pub currently (and during years gone by) underutilised. There are a number of ideas, but the conservatory area will be set up as a cafe-style space in the main and will be seen as a multi-purpose space to be used for;

  • Coffee mornings
  • Training workshops
  • A meeting and function space for the many local clubs and societies
  • Craft and exhibition fairs
  • A drop-in spaceAn early focus is to deliver the basics of the pub very well. Once we’re confident that the pub has found its operating rhythm, these additional services will be added on a ‘test and learn’ basis and once the community need can be demonstrated.
